Ten Things to Put in Dad’s Tie Box Other Than a Tie

Some of the best, sweetest gifts are the little surprises.  Hiding gifts in Dad’s tie box is fun and a great idea for a Father’s Day gift or for a birthday, or for Christmas.  If you’re lucky, Dad might reciprocate with something fun tucked under a pillow, or hidden in a purse.

Things to Put in Dad’s Tie Box Other Than a Tie

This post contains affiliate links, meaning I get a tiny cut, at no cost to you, so I can afford to buy my Dad the occasional gift.

Homemade Redeemable Coupons

I know it sounds cheesy but you’d be surprised how appreciated they are when Dad can just hand over a coupon and request the lawn to be mowed, his car washed or having his favourite (extremely elaborate) dinner made as a treat.

Massage Certificate

It isn’t just women who enjoy getting their aches and pains worked out of their body. It may not seem like an obvious choice but it will be much appreciated once Dad comes home relaxed and pain-free. Choose a spa that also or exclusively caters to men so that they are comfortable dealing with male clientele. He’ll secretly enjoy it and maybe drop hints for it again next Father’s Day!

Tickets to an Event or Show

Is Cirque du Soleil in town? Is his favourite team playing somewhere? Consider buying a set of tickets to an event or a show you think he might really enjoy.

Swiss Army Knife

If he doesn’t already have one, a Swiss Army Knife can be a very handy tool to have in a pinch.

Lamy Safari Pen

Maybe Dad is the type of guy who likes to have everything look elegant and professional, so why not get him a Lamy Safari Pen? They’re reasonably priced and come in a fountain or ballpoint pen option. Plus, they look very cool and not at all stodgy.

Homemade Treats

Bake his favourite cookies or try something a little fancier like macarons and put them in the box to eat. The way to a man’s heart is really, truly, through his stomach.

Polarized Sunglasses

Once he has a pair on, he will love them. Sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection aren’t enough to really protect your eyes in the bright sun, and buying polarized sunglasses are always more expensive but certainly worth the splurge. Dad will be able to see things clearly without the glare that comes with non-polarized shades.

Start of a Scavenger Hunt that Leads to a Bigger Gift

Maybe you bought a gift that is bigger than a tie box but don’t want to let him in on the secret right away. Why not start a scavenger hunt with a clue in the tie box that will lead him to his real gift?

Large USB key

This has to be one of the most practical gifts you can give someone. A USB key is handy to put on a keychain and carry around for any impromptu files being transferred either at work, or even among friends. You can’t imagine the number of times I said to myself: I wish I had a USB key!

It got to the point where I myself, carry one around just in case.

Subscriptions to a Magazine or Services

Ever hear of the “Bacon of the Month” club?

Maybe a subscription to something Dad will enjoy, or a magazine that he will enjoy. I recommend Mental Floss, which is a very well-written, interesting magazine full of facts and figures you never knew you wanted to know anything about.

If there is a new Dad in your life, take a look at over fifty ideas, just for him:

Finding a baby gift that has that "Dad" characteristic can be difficult. This HUGE selection of Gifts for New Dads has a little something for everyone.
